Build Your Bridges and Build Your Business

Think of these business systems as bridges. Bridges that will provide a path for you to cross safely …to financial freedom. . . Let’s take a dentist. A dentist spends years in school learning to become a self-contained system. You, as the client, get a toothache. You go see your dentist. He fixes your tooth. You pay and go home. You’re happy and then tell all of your friends about your great dentist. In most cases, the dentist can do the entire job by himself. The problem is that if the dentist goes on vacation, so does his income. True business owners can go on vacation forever because they own a system, not a job. If the business owner is on vacation, the money still comes in.”

                                                                         ~ Robert Kiyosaki  marketing strategies

This quotes goes great with what I am currently living.  On Tuesday 5/29 I flew from San Francisco to Miami.  The flight from hell but that is another story.

What I want to lead up to is that even though I was in the air and totally disconnected from my world, my business continued to produce money and leads.

It is just a great feeling; to be able to travel whenever you feel like it and take your business with you.

So I’ll give you the blueprint for making this a reality.

It’s called the Smart Marketing Blueprint and you ought to print this off, and put it next to your computer. marketing strategies

Here it is:

  1. Give people what they want.
  2. Develop or sell products and services that appeal to your specific market.
  3. Make sure those items have the highest profits possible.
  4. Develop marketing systems that help you identify the right prospects and then communicate the right message to them.
  5. Reach and sell to those prospects fast and make the largest profits.
  6. Resell to your customers on a regular basis.
  7. Create sales messages that build strong bonds with your customers.
  8. Position yourself so you have unique selling position (even before you actually do!)
  9. Create offensive marketing strategies that let you control the selling process.
  10. Make specific offers to your customers on an ongoing basis.

Let’s take a closer look.

Number one is to give people what they want. Sounds easy enough, but I have seen marketers in love with a certain product that has lousy conversions but nonetheless they want to sell it and can’t understand why sales are lousy.marketing strategies

Number Two on our list is to develop products and services that are appealing to a specific market. Again, it comes back to knowing and having an intimate understanding of your marketplace.  Most companies are doing “me too” kinds of things – they’re all following the follower. The more you’re aware of that, the more you’ll see it. There are exceptions, but those are the guys who are able to see what their clients really want. You need to become one of them to make the biggest profits.

Number Three is making sure those items have the largest profit margin possible. This is one of the main secrets behind the success of many affiliates.

Number Four is to develop marketing systems that identify the right prospects and communicate the right messages to them. A marketing system is simply a process that automatically attracts and resells customers again and again for you.

Number Five is that you’ve got strive to reach, and sell, to those people fast enough to make the largest profit you possibly can. Again, most businesses don’t have any real strategy for this part.

Ok, I have given 5 of the 10 I have on my list and you should jot down as well.

I will probably continue this post tomorrow unless Miami beach gets in the way.

Thank you for reading.

4 Tips for Engaging Instagram Content [Examples]

As a marketer, you might have noticed how traditional advertising is less effective. Even mobile ads are disliked by 70% of users. What can you do to effectively connect your products to your audience?          Social media Instagram

Instagram is a good answer. Its audience has grown rapidly, totaling over 800 million (increasing 200 million between July and September 2017 alone). And, according to Social Media Today, referrals from Instagram “spend the longest time on e-commerce sites with an average duration of 192 seconds, which is almost double Facebook and triple Pinterest.”

Referrals from @Instagram spend longest time on e-commerce sites w/ ave duration of 192 sec. @socialmedia2dayCLICK TO TWEET

Which types of Instagram content work best? Consider these opportunities and be inspired by the examples.

TIP: The first step in a successful Instagram strategy is to know your audience members so you can create relevant content for them.

1. Leverage user-generated content

One of the best ways to achieve maximum reach and engagement is creating content that encourages your viewers to create their user-generated posts featuring your product or message.

One successful example of this approach is the Instagram campaign conducted by Australia-based beauty brand Frank Body to promote its coffee ground-based body scrub. It hired a team of influencers with highly engaged audiences to showcase the product in creative ways. Each post included “#Let’sBeFrank” or “#TheFrankEffect.” The bold content encouraged users to post their own images of the coffee scrub using those hashtags.

25K+ Instagram users generated dirty images & promoted @frank_bod’s coffee-based scrub. @shane_barkerCLICK TO TWEET

The results? Over 25,000 user-generated images posted to Instagram and 350,000 followers in 12 months.

2. Create a contest

Running a contest to give away some products always attracts users’ interest. It’s even more powerful when you incorporate user-generated content into the contest. Use a hashtag that encapsulates your message or captures the viewer’s attention enough to make them want to create content and promote the giveaway.

The Body Shop created an incredibly catchy hashtag – #HealthyMoment – to promote its new Fuji Green Tea products. It urged people to create content showing their “healthy moments” throughout the day and to participate in the giveaway.

Do @Instagram hashtag contest that means more than your product like @TheBodyShop #HealthyMoment. @shane_barkerCLICK TO TWEET

The results? The brand received over 50,000 “likes” and saw a 200% increase in engagement. It reached 225,000 people through this single giveaway.

3. Show the application of your product

To create engaging content on Instagram, show users how to use your products in their life. Consumers like to get ideas and see what products fit with yours so keep your content as actionable as possible.

It’s been popular in the fashion industry, as retailers show a clothing item within the context of an outfit, a certain look, or a striking combination. One example is ASOS, which posts seasonally relevant outfits to Instagram. In this image, ASOS shows a back-to-school outfit using the hashtag #OOTD (outfit of the day).

Social media Instagram

The results? ASOS received over 32,200 “likes” and 248 comments for this single post.

A good example of an influencer showing products in use is grey_acuna, who often posts images of several products in the same scenario. Here, he showcases a bag from Lo & Sons, an outfit from Lululemon, and sunglasses from Ray-Ban. His post has received over 700 “likes.”

Social media Instagram

Food is a popular category on Instagram. And if your products are related to food at all, consider creating dishes and posting recipes. This gives a twist to the show-your-product tip because you (or the poster) make something.

One great example is from the influencer daisybeet who promoted Siggi’s, a natural yogurt brand. She put together a delicious breakfast of yummy grapefruit, blueberries, oats, and a bunch of other super-healthy foods that I can’t pronounce.

Social media Instagram

The results? Her post received 2,965 “likes” and reached a new audience for Siggi’s that it didn’t have access to.

4. Tell a story

Creating a story with your product engages consumers and creates a compelling reason for them to click on your site and start shopping.

This strategy works for pretty much any product category.

For example, charity: water uses storytelling to describe the communities benefiting from its clean water initiatives around the world. This Instagram post shows a community in Malawi that now has clean water because of the nonprofit’s project.

Social media Instagram

Being open and telling your brand story is a good way to build your online community. Posting images reflecting your behind-the-scenes work helps illustrate your values. Most importantly, it provides a way for consumers to better understand your company and to connect with your product.

Being open & telling your brand story is a good way to build an online community, says @shane_barker.CLICK TO TWEET

Apolis is a socially motivated lifestyle brand that creates products from natural ingredients and gives back to native communities around the world. It even posts to Instagram an image of the executive team discussing its next initiative. Note that it uses the text to explain how the viewer can further engage and connect with the members of that team.

Social media Instagram

Grace & Lace, a clothing retailer that appeared on ABC’s Shark Tank, has built a community of 61,000 followers on Instagram.

How does the brand get those followers engaged? The secret is every post tells a story. They use models and other people instead of mannequins. They share stories about their family and take viewers behind the scenes.

If you make your content relatable and tell stories, then users will connect with your brand and have a positive experience before they ever see your site.

Social media Instagram

Recap

Instagram offers a great opportunity to make your brand stand out – if you use it well and:

  • Leverage user-generated content.
  • Create a giveaway contest.
  • Show the application of your product; create a recipe or composition.
  • Tell your story.

Each one of these strategies is a powerful way to maximize your reach, engagement, and conversions on Instagram.

Don’t limit yourself to a single type of post or the same type of content. Try different ones to see what works best for your audience and your brand.

Get Your Internet Idea Done And Published

“Ideas are shit, execution is the game.”

~ Gary Vaynerchuk

Billie Scott here with online ideas to get your business up and running.

I’m not sure who first invented the saying, “Good enough is good enough.”

I learned this at a seminar I attended,  and is so true when it comes to executing projects in your business.

It applies when you’re creating products.

When you’re creating a website.                  internet ideas

When you’re writing a blog post or email.

When you’re putting together a webinar.

And just about any other task in your business.

Especially when you’re in the startup phase trying to get your business off the ground, and trying to prove your concept.

It doesn’t mean you purposely launch things in a sloppy manner.  Or that you don’t care about quality.

But rather, it means you’d rather have rapid execution with ‘good enough’ quality in the beginning.  This is just to get your business moving forward.  You can always come back later and perfect things.  And it’s much easier to perfect something which is in motion and has momentum… where you can see real results coming in, then trying to get something perfect which is at a standstill.

Natural Perfectionist Step Aside

If you’re a natural perfectionist like a lot of people are, then this mode of operating can be really hard.

You don’t want to release things which seem half-done.  And you want to figure out all the answers, before you take action.

I get it.  That was me for a number of years.  Always cramming my head with more information, more knowledge.  Starting a lot of things (but never finishing them).

Now what I have come to realize that waiting to get things perfect was just procrastination out of fear.

I admitted to myself all of this was just my procrastinating.  I was just making excuses, because I was afraid to take action and do something which wouldn’t be perfect.

So I came up with a solution;  I went and announced publicly to my entire list I’d be hosting a series of webinars on email marketing over the next 8 days.

A webinar every single night, starting at 9pm.

My plan was, I would record each webinar as a module for my course… and by the end of the 8 days I’d have my course.

It Was Do Or Die

When I made the announcement about the webinars, I had not prepared a single module.

And 9 hours before the first webinar, guess what?

I still had not done a single module!  (I am the master at procrastinating).

Naturally, I start to panic because dozens of people had registered for the webinar.  But now I had no choice.

So in the same way I used to cram frantically for exams back in college the night before… I applied that same work ethic in this situation.

The webinar was started 5 minutes late, and the slide presentation was far from perfect.  But it was good enough.

And at the end, people actually told me it was a really, really good webinar.

Had I not scheduled that webinar and created public accountability with a deadline… the course never would have got done.  And I bet my business would be much much smaller today.

Trust me on this;

It’s better you execute fast and please the majority of your customers, than trying execute perfectly (and slow) and please 99% of customers.

You’ll never please them all regardless.  (And forget about pleasing 100% of customers, 100% of the time.  It’s not going to happen).

With speed of execution, you get cash flow.  You’re then in a better place to hire people to improve what you already have.

My challenge to you today is to do something similar.

Announce to your customers on Facebook, or through an email broadcast that you’re going to release some new content. It could be an information product, or a new series of videos, or a webinar.

But most importantly, announce it with a date so you have a real deadline.

It will force you to put aside the excuses and just get the job done.

Hope that helps.

3 Trends Changing Social Media Engagement

The social media landscape is being transformed — again. Here’s what you need to know to roll with the changes.

Sometimes, I feel like we’re all at the whim of the latest social media trends. Whether you’re a marketer using social to distribute your content and engage with audiences or a consumer trying to catch up with friends, family, and current events, social media is part of the conversation.

Love it or hate it, social media is integral to how audiences discover, consume, and engage with content — which is why it’s so critical for marketers and brand leaders to know how to maximize its value.

In the past, sharing a link on each of your platforms might have checked the box on your distribution checklist, but not anymore. Now, it’s all about audience engagement. And earning and sustaining that engagement requires you to understand how audiences interact with content on social.

To help you improve your content distribution and deliver more value to your audiences, here are three key trends in social media engagement you need to know:

1. It’s all about timing.

Tell me if this sounds familiar. You know your audience loves Twitter, so you share your content on Twitter and then wait — and wait — for the favorites and retweets to flood your account’s notifications. If so, then I’ve got some news for you. Sharing content where your audience lives is only half the battle; you’ve also got to get it to those people at the right time.

In “The State of Digital Media 2018,” my team analyzed more than 3.5 million pieces of published content (as well as survey responses from editors at online publications) to uncover challenges and opportunities in the world of content. One area we examined was the relationship between when content is published and when audiences engage with it.

Most content was typically published midweek — however, people tended to engage more with content on the weekends. When we looked at it from a monthly view, we found engagement was higher earlier in the year than it was during the summer and winter months.

If you have control over when your content goes live, consider testing different publication dates to maximize social engagement. And be prepared for engagement dips at certain times of the week and year.

2. New platforms are emerging.

It’s hard to make it in this industry (R.I.P. Myspace), and if a platform can’t offer something truly compelling or prove its value, then it won’t last. Add to that the fact that a lot of us already have our personal favorite platforms, and it can be even tougher for a new one to emerge and successfully take off.

Still, there are some new platforms out there that are trying and at least seem intriguing. For example, Facebook is broadening its horizons by featuring a business chat option called Messenger 2.3. This new feature should help deepen engagement between businesses on Facebook and their consumers, offering a more personalized interaction with quicker communication.

There’s also Vero, a new video and photo app that offers up content without the ads. It’s also chronological — something that Instagram and Facebook no longer are, much to everyone’s dismay. Plus, Vero is free (for now), but the company and its CEO have received some backlash that may or may not affect the success of the app. Time will tell how it plays out, but if Vero takes off, then it could mean big changes for brands that advertise on social media.

3. Dark social shares are rising.

Dark social shares — which is the sharing that happens person-to-person instead of publicly on social platforms — now account for 65 percent of all social shares.

This is largely due to the increase of messaging apps, like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, that are joining the sphere. With apps like these making person-to-person communication easier, people are sharing content differently, and it’s causing a dip in social share numbers.

While this may be a bummer for your social share metrics, it’s not the end of the world. Audiences are still sharing and engaging with content, even if you can’t see the count totals on each of your articles.

Social shares still count for something; just because they’re lower than you might want doesn’t mean people aren’t sharing your content. It just means they’re changing the way in which they share it. In return, brands will just have to start adjusting the way they measure their content’s success to really understand how it’s performing.

It’s no secret that audiences everywhere are using social media — and if your audience is on social, then you should be, too. To make the most of your strategy, you’ve got to understand the trends that shape it. These three trends are affecting social engagement right now. Start learning from them to effectively adjust your strategy and drive meaningful results.

The Daily Routine Of A Successful Person

“Do the hard jobs first. The easy jobs will take care of themselves.”

~ Dale Carnegie

Hey Billie Scott here with some ramblings about successful people.  People who hit the mark because they are determined to live life on their own terms no matter what life hands them.

“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”
― Elbert Hubbard

I was watching a really good video by Robin Sharma last night (you can see it here) where he was talking about morning routines.

Those first few hours of the day are critical to your productivity and how much you accomplish in business and in life.

How do you spend those hours?

If you’re like most people, one of the first things you do is check email and social media.

This is literally the worst way you can start your day.  Why?  Because you’re going into a ‘reactive’ mode from the very start.  And often how you start your day, is how you’ll end your day.successful people daily routine

When you’re reacting from the moment you wake up, it’s extremely hard to switch into a proactive mode later in the day and be extremely productive.

But…

If you start your day by doing the most important tasks which will have the biggest impact, then you build up momentum.  By the time 11am rolls around, you may have accomplished more in the few 3 – 4 hours of the day than most people get done all day.

It’s much easier to be productive in the second half of the day as well when you know in the back of your mind you’ve already got a lot of important things done.

Start Your Day With An Energizing Work Out

I don’t know if you work out in the morning.  But if you don’t, give it a try.  Starting your day with a good work out routine where you really sweat, is one of the best things you can do.  I myself am usually up at 5ish,  and start with a brisk walk, then a low run and back to a brisk walk.  I make sure I am out there for 30 minutes breathing in the morning air, getting ready for my first cup of hazelnut coffee or blueberry coffee.  I just love it!

For the rest of the day, I have this good feeling because I know I’ve got something important done, and it’s not lingering in my mind as something I needed to get to ‘later on.’

I try to write my daily posts early after my exercise cause I got all my thought juices running.

All of the above is much easier said than done.

Naturally, we all want to take the path of least resistance.  It’s much easier to check emails or social media first thing in the morning.  You don’t have to concentrate so much.  It’s stimulating.  And you at least feel ‘busy.’  But busy does not equal productive.

I know a lot of people who are in an extreme state of busyness for 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, who never get ahead.

The trick is to know the difference between what’s busy work and what’s productive work, and to not fool yourself into believing one is the same as the other.

So find the time of day when you’re at your peak state and you have the most energy, and get the most important and creative tasks done at that time. When you’re feeling less energetic and focused, then you can use that time for ‘reactive’ tasks like checking and responding to email.

So that is my world and how I get things done.  Give it a try for 21 days.  Remember 21 days to create a habit. successful people daily routine

Internet Marketing Competition

“Whenever I may be tempted to slack up and let the business run for awhile on its own impetus, I picture my competitor sitting at a desk in his opposition house, thinking and thinking with the most devilish intensity and clearness, and I ask myself what I can do to be prepared for his next brilliant move.”

~ H. Gordon Selfridge

A Clear Sign You Are In A Healthy Exciting Business

I was thinking today how we are always competing with someone in one way or another. It is just a human characteristic. Very normal, but not all of us see it that way. When we feel someone is competing with us, we take it personal and get all up tight about.

Billie Scott here sharing my feelings as to why I think that competition is a very good thing for our internet sales, internet business.

I look at competition as a very positive thing.  Competition means people are making money.  It means the market is big enough to support a lot of businesses.  It means there are plenty of opportunities for joint ventures over the coming years.

Competition Sets The Quality Levelonline sales competition

It’s very similar to the internet marketing industry.  Every day, 1,000’s of people start an online business.

Most fail of course.  But it’s not due to the market being too crowded – it’s because they don’t know how to run a business, plus the image of an online business is “put it on the internet and it will sell”. Not true! Would be entrepreneurs can’t figure it out before they get discouraged and quit.

The main reason they don’t make it, is they can’t get their marketing right.  Either their offers don’t convert, or they don’t know how to get traffic.

Believe it or not, your first sales are super important.  They actually set the tone for your business.

Me personally, I like to think of my business as an information marketing business and I direct my marketing to represent what I am selling.  Information products that when implemented correctly can make my buyers a lot of money just as it has for me.

Tips To Stay Ahead Of Your Competition

  • Develop a winning offer (whatever you are selling needs to convert/sell)
  • Map out a sales funnel
  • Create high quality marketing videos
  • Professionally written sales letter
  • A written blog
  • Autoresponder with followup email sequenceonline sales competition

Of course, these marketing assets don’t make money by themselves. You need to get them in front of people.

The quickest way to get traffic to your offers is with paid traffic. But let’s say you are like me. I had to start with the cheapest traffic around.  FREE TRAFFIC.

Easy as 1-2-3.  My mentor James turned me on to all his free traffic moves and yes! they did work. Takes some time but it does work. Traffic started coming to my offers and I started to sell and my bank account has been growing ever since.

If you are interested in learning about how to get FREE traffic to your offers, visit my HOW TO blog Billie Scott’s Internet Marketing Blog.

At the end of the day, with any information marketing business, it’s about getting people in front of the offers. It’s about quantity and quality of clicks to your landing pages and sales pages.

Just remember that you could have the greatest offers, the slickest branding videos, the most valuable information products in the world, but they’re going to be useless unless you get them in front of people.

Getting your offers in front of people is how you turn your information marketing business into money.

This is Billie Scott and I would love to hear or read your comment.  I am on your side.  My happy place is at the beach as well as helping fellow online marketers make sales.

Testimonial Proof In Your Marketing

“I believe that you have to understand the economics of a business before you have a strategy, and you have to understand your strategy before you have a structure. If you get these in the wrong order, you will probably fail.”

                                                                                                                      ~ Michael Dell

Testimonials and Case Studies Are The “Magic Bullet” That Can Get Skeptical Prospects Off The Fence.

Hey guys Billie Scott here with more for you to think about.

Have you ever had a potential customer right on the edge of buying from you, but at the last minute they back out because of they’re just too skeptical?

We have all been there and man what disappointment.Testimonial Proof In Your Marketing

The way you overcome this is with an abundance of proof in your marketing – lots of testimonials.

Let’s say you’re selling an information product in the business-to-business category about how to get more leads.

In your marketing you say within 7 days of implementing these strategies, they should be generating 200 leads a day.

A lot of your prospects, in the back of their mind, will be saying, “yeah, right…”

The way you overcome that is with an abundance of testimonials. And when I say testimonials, I don’t mean people saying kind words about you and your product. I mean case studies of them getting real results.

For example, you might have a video of one of your customers, John. In the video, John shows a screen shot of his back office. Monday, he got 220 leads. Tuesday, he got over 300 leads. Those are the kind of testimonials you want.

But here’s what’s REALLY powerful in a testimonial or case study.

When your prospects look for testimonials, what they really latch on to is a testimonial from someone just like them. Someone they can relate to with a similar background or situation.  I can tell you this really works.  When I use my own exoeriences in my marketing I see a sharp increase in signups for my email list.

I’ll give you a real-life example this time.Testimonial Proof In Your Marketing

When I first got into the industry of affiliate marketing back in 2012, I was nearly about to start working with a lady who was making over $50,000 a month.

I saw her ad and filled out her online application form. She called me back and tried to sign me up for her affiliate marketing program.

A week later, I start researching a different affiliate marketing program and I started talking to another guy. I ended up cutting ties with the first lady and the program she was recommending, and choosing to sign up with the second program.

Why you might ask.  Simple, he relayed to me experiences he had being taken advantage of by other so called gurus.  He told me how much he had spent trying to achieve and set up his online business.  Same as me.  He showed me how he had helped other young entrepreneurs and I wanted the same.

So now when I talk to people who want to do the same thing I am doing, I show them the exact steps that I took to get where I am.  If I can do it, they can do it.  And this little process makes me  lot of money.  It can for you too.

And one last tip. If your products really are good and live up to the claims you make, you shouldn’t have any problems getting those you help give you credible testimonials.
