This quotes goes great with what I am currently living.  On Tuesday 5/29 I flew from San Francisco to Miami.  The flight from hell but that is another story.

What I want to lead up to is that even though I was in the air and totally disconnected from my world, my business continued to produce money and leads.

It is just a great feeling; to be able to travel whenever you feel like it and take your business with you.

So I’ll give you the blueprint for making this a reality.

It’s called the Smart Marketing Blueprint and you ought to print this off, and put it next to your computer. marketing strategies

Here it is:

  1. Give people what they want.
  2. Develop or sell products and services that appeal to your specific market.
  3. Make sure those items have the highest profits possible.
  4. Develop marketing systems that help you identify the right prospects and then communicate the right message to them.
  5. Reach and sell to those prospects fast and make the largest profits.
  6. Resell to your customers on a regular basis.
  7. Create sales messages that build strong bonds with your customers.
  8. Position yourself so you have unique selling position (even before you actually do!)
  9. Create offensive marketing strategies that let you control the selling process.
  10. Make specific offers to your customers on an ongoing basis.

Let’s take a closer look.

Number one is to give people what they want. Sounds easy enough, but I have seen marketers in love with a certain product that has lousy conversions but nonetheless they want to sell it and can’t understand why sales are lousy.marketing strategies

Number Two on our list is to develop products and services that are appealing to a specific market. Again, it comes back to knowing and having an intimate understanding of your marketplace.  Most companies are doing “me too” kinds of things – they’re all following the follower. The more you’re aware of that, the more you’ll see it. There are exceptions, but those are the guys who are able to see what their clients really want. You need to become one of them to make the biggest profits.

Number Three is making sure those items have the largest profit margin possible. This is one of the main secrets behind the success of many affiliates.

Number Four is to develop marketing systems that identify the right prospects and communicate the right messages to them. A marketing system is simply a process that automatically attracts and resells customers again and again for you.

Number Five is that you’ve got strive to reach, and sell, to those people fast enough to make the largest profit you possibly can. Again, most businesses don’t have any real strategy for this part.

Ok, I have given 5 of the 10 I have on my list and you should jot down as well.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with making as much as you can from your market place.  It means you’re doing your job well, and that you’re providing value to your market. 

I recommend that you think about it very carefully. Here’s the basic formula.

Commit that to memory. Hang it on your wall. Think it through. Visualize it. Internalize it. Really understand what that formula is all about. It’s as simple as it sounds.

Don’t Fire Your Boss Yet!

Normally people who wish to have their own business talk about their present job as if it is the worst thing in the world – a complete inconvenience where they get underpaid, overworked, their boss is greedy and taking home all the rewards.

Having had the experience of both… there are many positive aspects to having a job versus owning your own business.

For most people they ought to be thankful for their job, and thankful they don’t need to make a living by producing value in their own business (because the world would come tumbling down).

I’ve watched many people over the years talk about how much their job sucked.

Complaints about not being paid enough, made to work way too hard for too many hours, and talk about the day they were going to leave it all behind.

Finally they’d work up the courage to quit, show their resentment for the job in how they resigned (very short notice, with no thanks given), then proudly proclaim to everyone on Facebook that today was day they were free – today was the day they had ‘fired their boss’ and were going start a business and make their millions.

Fast forward 6 months, they’d be asking if their job was still available.

So before you quit your job and tell your boss to go to hell, lets discuss a few things.

First, most people quit their day job because of the time excuse; they feel they don’t have enough time to work on their business.

making money onlineI don’t really agree with this.  There’s always time.  It’s a matter of getting your priorities in order.  I would get up at 5am to get a blog post written before going to work.  I would post it and then when I got back, would followup by sending to directories and other sources.

All of us have 24 hours in the day – whether you’re Warren Buffet or a homeless beggar. It’s about priorities.

In order to start a business, you’ve got to move that business into one of your top three priority slots. The closer it is to THE most important thing in your life, the better you will usually do.

You should always be looking for opportunities during the day to accomplish useful work for your business.

This is what you need to think, “if I HAD to get this done given the time I currently have available, how would I do it?”  If there’s no choice but to get it done, amazingly somehow you’ll always find the time.

Using your job as a scapegoat holds no weight.  “I don’t have the time” is not valid anymore.  Find a way to get a few extra hours out of the day to do money producing activities in your business.

Which brings me to my next point…      making money online

Get sales coming in and replace part of your job income, before you go and quit.

It’s plain stupid to go quit a job and start a business when you haven’t even demonstrated to yourself you can get even a few customers.

Prove it to yourself first, by seeing whether people will actually pay you money for your idea or whatever you are selling.   All that matters is, has anyone actually handed you cash for it yet?

If not, you have to keep working on it.

It’s a good idea to wait till your business is almost matching the salary from your job, before you quit your job. Once you have a couple of good months where your business earned you at least 75 percent of what your regular job did, that’s a pretty good time to jump in with both feet.

And don’t quit your job because of one great customer.  Don’t get overexcited after finding your first hyper-responsive client and give up your existing income, because if something happens to that one person then you’ll have a problem.

I will admit, it has been hard for me. Many times I wanted to quit my job and dedicate 100% of my time to my online business.  I did not.  I just kept working and making my business a priority till one day the gates of prosperity opened up for me!

And here I am doing what I love to do and making money every day.

Extroverts Scroll On – Introverts Read This!

If you identify yourself as an introvert, you might feel a little out of your comfort zone doing online marketing.

Just look around around, and everyone’s putting themselves out there on video, sharing their entire lives through Instagram stories, putting on webinars and branding themselves online. Some are even speaking on stage. 

Making the big bucks in this business seems to be something which comes much more naturally to extroverts.    online marketing

That does not have to be the case.  Plenty of introverts lead company’s and dominate their industries.

I myself am a definate introvert. I get my pal James to do videos for me and I run them.  He loves to do videos.

In the beginning, doing all this online marketing stuff was not something which came naturally to me.  In those first few years, I couldn’t even make a video without feeling way outside my comfort zone (so for those first few years I did zero video marketing). And that is still the case.

And as for speaking on stage – you can hold a gun to my head, and I still will not want to do it.  There is no way in hell I am ever going to get up on stage in front of large crowds of people – it just won’t happen. 

So I started with marketing channels I felt I could do more anonymously, where I could perfect my message.

Like email marketing.  Or writing blog post.

Out of all the people around me, I was one of the last to even get a Facebook account – and I only did it because I thought I could make money with it.

Those 3 channels were pretty much it for me.

I really admire the people who put themselves out there and do it! Our business is growing by leaps and bounds and we have to grow with it or be left behind.  Now talking about me, I am pushing myself every day to do what I have to do and the more I do, the more money I make and the more motivated I get.

For example, I started writing this morning at 5am.  Who the hell gets up to write at that time or much less has the inspiration at that time?

Now video marketing.  Where there is a will there is a way.  I do not like to get in front of a camera, so I pay my friend James to do it.  He does a fabulous job and he loves it. 

Now doing videos is pretty effortless.  I have to write up the material and the camera is a rolling! online marketing

What I am trying to tell you is that we have to keep up with the industry to get our message out there. Sometimes you have to think out of the box.  But it works.

If you don’t like doing videos… then use Camtasia and record your screen, and then just speak over the top of the footage and teach something.

If you don’t want to share too much of yourself on social media, then make all your content about other people and case studies. 

But either way, if you want to earn good money and build your business you’ve got to be willing to put your content and brand out there.

If you are going to be successful in the internet marketing world you have to get out there and do it!

Grow Your Hidden Asset – Your Mailing List

If you have been in business for awhile now then you possess a certain hidden asset that can make you rich.

What am I talking about you ask. This hidden asset is also hidden from all your competitors. Once you understand and take advantage of its true value, you’ll enjoy an instant and unfair advantage in your marketplace.

Ok Billie, quit fooling around and get to the point. What hidden asset?

Think about your value to your customers, subscriber list, email list, whatever you want to call it. The more promotions you run , and the better your relationship with them is, and the more value will accrue to your list and vice versu.

Believe it or not, you are of value to your list because you are helping them solve a problem and better their lives. Honestly, that is what you are supposed to be doing as a marketer. 

America’s first billionaire, Andrew Carnegie, once said: “You can take away all my factories, all my machinery, all my equipment, all of my real estate, and leave me with my very best people—and I’ll have it all back in no time flat.”

That is a great quote, because you must firmly believe in the value of good people. However, I want to add an important distinction. I say: “Take away everything from me, but leave me my best people and my customer list, and I’ll have it all back in no time flat.”

That’s because a good customer list is your meal ticket for life. It can produce enormous lifetime sales and profits.

I have written this before on my blog that when I started in this business 6 years ago, I was scared to start a list because I did not know how.

It was not until I had a healthy list, 2 years later that my bank account started to grow. That is the truth.

The key to success and it does not matter what business you are in is getting customers to come back and do business with you as many times possible for as long as possible.

In order to do that you have to invite them to come back and do more business with you.

But listen, you always have to give them something of value.

You can’t just wait for them to come to you. It’s easy enough to be proactive.  I keep my mailing list on 2 autoresponders of which I feel AWEBER is the best do to their customer service. Believe me I contact them a lot.

Contact your list or lists on a regular basis. Don’t always be trying to sell them on something. Give them something that they will say thank you and they know you care. I do and I feel good doing it.

Every business claims they care about their customers, but what are you doing to prove it?

Building a good relationship is key. Show people you really care about them. That can be very easy to do if you have the systems and processes in place that let you do it.

Build and maintain strong relationships with subscribers on your list who have done business with you before. Make it easy for them to keep doing business with you, and you’ll leave your competitors eating your dust. It’s as simple as that.

4 Tips for Engaging Instagram Content [Examples]

As a marketer, you might have noticed how traditional advertising is less effective. Even mobile ads are disliked by 70% of users. What can you do to effectively connect your products to your audience?          Social media Instagram

Instagram is a good answer. Its audience has grown rapidly, totaling over 800 million (increasing 200 million between July and September 2017 alone). And, according to Social Media Today, referrals from Instagram “spend the longest time on e-commerce sites with an average duration of 192 seconds, which is almost double Facebook and triple Pinterest.”

Which types of Instagram content work best? Consider these opportunities and be inspired by the examples.

TIP: The first step in a successful Instagram strategy is to know your audience members so you can create relevant content for them.

1. Leverage user-generated content

One of the best ways to achieve maximum reach and engagement is creating content that encourages your viewers to create their user-generated posts featuring your product or message.

One successful example of this approach is the Instagram campaign conducted by Australia-based beauty brand Frank Body to promote its coffee ground-based body scrub. It hired a team of influencers with highly engaged audiences to showcase the product in creative ways. Each post included “#Let’sBeFrank” or “#TheFrankEffect.” The bold content encouraged users to post their own images of the coffee scrub using those hashtags.

2. Create a contest

Running a contest to give away some products always attracts users’ interest. It’s even more powerful when you incorporate user-generated content into the contest. Use a hashtag that encapsulates your message or captures the viewer’s attention enough to make them want to create content and promote the giveaway.

The Body Shop created an incredibly catchy hashtag – #HealthyMoment – to promote its new Fuji Green Tea products. It urged people to create content showing their “healthy moments” throughout the day and to participate in the giveaway.

The results? The brand received over 50,000 “likes” and saw a 200% increase in engagement. It reached 225,000 people through this single giveaway.

3. Show the application of your product

To create engaging content on Instagram, show users how to use your products in their life. Consumers like to get ideas and see what products fit with yours so keep your content as actionable as possible.

It’s been popular in the fashion industry, as retailers show a clothing item within the context of an outfit, a certain look, or a striking combination. One example is ASOS, which posts seasonally relevant outfits to Instagram. In this image, ASOS shows a back-to-school outfit using the hashtag #OOTD (outfit of the day).

The results? ASOS received over 32,200 “likes” and 248 comments for this single post.

A good example of an influencer showing products in use is grey_acuna, who often posts images of several products in the same scenario. Here, he showcases a bag from Lo & Sons, an outfit from Lululemon, and sunglasses from Ray-Ban. His post has received over 700 “likes.”

Food is a popular category on Instagram. And if your products are related to food at all, consider creating dishes and posting recipes. This gives a twist to the show-your-product tip because you (or the poster) make something.

One great example is from the influencer daisybeet who promoted Siggi’s, a natural yogurt brand. She put together a delicious breakfast of yummy grapefruit, blueberries, oats, and a bunch of other super-healthy foods that I can’t pronounce.

The results? Her post received 2,965 “likes” and reached a new audience for Siggi’s that it didn’t have access to.

4. Tell a story

Creating a story with your product engages consumers and creates a compelling reason for them to click on your site and start shopping.

This strategy works for pretty much any product category.

For example, charity: water uses storytelling to describe the communities benefiting from its clean water initiatives around the world. This Instagram post shows a community in Malawi that now has clean water because of the nonprofit’s project.

Being open and telling your brand story is a good way to build your online community. Posting images reflecting your behind-the-scenes work helps illustrate your values. Most importantly, it provides a way for consumers to better understand your company and to connect with your product.

Apolis is a socially motivated lifestyle brand that creates products from natural ingredients and gives back to native communities around the world. It even posts to Instagram an image of the executive team discussing its next initiative. Note that it uses the text to explain how the viewer can further engage and connect with the members of that team.

Grace & Lace, a clothing retailer that appeared on ABC’s Shark Tank, has built a community of 61,000 followers on Instagram.

How does the brand get those followers engaged? The secret is every post tells a story. They use models and other people instead of mannequins. They share stories about their family and take viewers behind the scenes.

If you make your content relatable and tell stories, then users will connect with your brand and have a positive experience before they ever see your site.

Instagram offers a great opportunity to make your brand stand out – if you use it well and:

  • Leverage user-generated content.
  • Create a giveaway contest.
  • Show the application of your product; create a recipe or composition.
  • Tell your story.

It didn’t take long for Instagram Stories to take off.Instagram’s hottest new feature has become exponentially popular since its inception in August 2016, much to the detriment of competitors like Snapchat. In August, the company said that Stories have driven users younger than 25 to use the app upwards of 32 minutes a day on average. In September, the app as a whole announced it had 800 million monthly active users, 500 million of those who return each day. In comparison, Snapchat boasted 173 million daily active users as of August.Not only that, but ever since Instagram launched the feature, it’s been continuously building on top of it, adding incredibly popular features like Boomerang and Superzoom.

That being so, you might have missed a few. So, here are a few Instagram Stories tips and tricks that that’ll help you master the platform.

How to create Rainbow Text in Stories

Did you know that you can accent each of your Stories with colorful rainbow text?

It’s a little complicated, but type your normal message using the text tool. Then, highlight the part of text you want to turn colorful. Now using two fingers drag one across the text, and another across the range of colors at the bottom of the screen. You should see the colors of your letters start to change as you move.

Dragging slowly will make sure you get each letter.

How to write a story

It’s actually pretty easy to turn your entire Instagram Story into a bit of a visual essay. Just think of each Story as a slide in a click-through slideshow. Formulate the story you want to tell, break it into parts and then shoot away.

For example, take a look at this tragic tale of non-Instagrammable caffeine.

It doesn’t have to be this simple (or heartbreaking). You can make each photo a block of color (or just black like the one on the end above) and write out a story that way.

But be careful, don’t overload each photo with too much text to read in such a short amount of time. The people who do that are objectively evil.

How to create a solid color background

Building off the previous note, it’s really easy to fill the backgrounds of your Stories with a solid color. Just take a random photo of anything, click into the pen tool and select a color.

Then long press on the photo and watch it turn into a full slab of color. You can even customize the color of your background by long pressing on a color to bring up the color map.

How to hit ’em with that dropshadow

There are a few ways to get creative with your text-only Stories too. If you’re going for some emphasis, add a manually created drop shadow. Just write the text you want, then copy and paste it again in a different text box, making sure it’s the same size as the original. Now darken the copied text to a shadowy gray and put it behind the original. Just look at how much better it looks.

Get creative with your Boomerangs

Chances are you’ve used this feature before. But don’t be afraid to get a little creative with it. Use the forward and reverse video in Boomerangs to your advantage and build suspense. Just make sure to stop your motion right as the video stops recording and then watch it do its thing.

How to mute Instagram stories and/or hide your stories

Got a friend who posts too many stories? (We know you do.) Well you can mute them. Just hold onto their circle icon in the Stories menu and click mute.

You can also hide your stories from certain people. First, click on your profile, hit the gear icon in the top right-hand corner, then select the Story Settings tab under Account. At the top of that screen, type in the username of the person you’re trying to hide your story from.

Save a copy

Always, always save a copy of your photo before you mess around with it. It’s a failsafe way of making sure you don’t lose the original after you load it with text and emoji, and it’s a good way of making sure you can always start over if you don’t like emoji-filled monstrosity you’ve created.

Shoot now, upload later

This is an easy one, but not everyone remembers that you can upload to Instagram Stories from your camera roll. So if you’re in a pinch, and don’t have time to shoot your Stories in the Instagram app, just shoot ’em with your normal camera and then upload them when you have time. That, or wait until the end of the day to batch create your stories, that way you can treat them with some sweet, sweet care.

Unsend messages!

This isn’t an Instagram Stories tip so much as an overall tip for Instagram. Did you know you can unsend messages? YUP. UN 👏 SEND 👏 MESS 👏 A 👏 GES. All you have to go is go into your DMs and find the one you regret sending, hold it, and then click unsend.

And viola! It’s like it never happened.
